I was hoping for Connie too, but that doesn't seem likley at this point. But considering it's a soap opera with musical beds, anything is possible.

That reminds me! How come the gunshot victims didn't go to A&E department? I was wondering that when I was watching.

A&E depts (also known as "casualty", funnily enough) don't have surgical facilities - if that's needed it'll be radioed ahead from the ambulance and the patient is taken straight to the right ward.
