(Actually, spoilers for the coming movie if you've never read the book.)
Tauriel and Kili are totally going to die in each others arms during the Battle of the Five Armies. Kili's going to be killed regardless, and why else set up the star crossed (no pun intended) lovers? They even have their own musical theme, for goodness sake! And retcon wise, it makes so much more sense for Legolas still hating on Dwarves by the time we get to the Council of Elrond.
I'm bringing a box of tissues.
