ARGH!! I am so tired of the frelling Sopranos! What the hell is so special that they deserve their own song and dance number? And better than House? I don't think so. And James Spader over Hugh Laurie?!?!? Insane!

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? I swear I don't get why they're so popular. Baffles me utterly.

Why weren't there nominations for Slings and Arrows? One of the best series on TV and not one nomination!

Neil Patrick Harris was robbed.

Ugly Betty should have won its category hands down.

And then there's Battlestar Galactica. I guess I should be shocked they even got nominations and shouldn't have expected a win, but damn!

I really should know better than to watch the damn show, shouldn't I?

I took a look at the Primetime Emmy Awards Rules and Procedures document of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. There are at least two points in the listed criteria for eligibility which would exclude Slings and Arrows.

  • Programs (and individual achievements within them) are eligible for nomination if they were originally aired or transmitted during the eligibility year in any primetime period (6:00 PM - 2:00 AM) (i) by broadcast to at least 51% of the total potential U.S. television audience or, (ii) by pay/basic cable transmissions (including by way of example so-called basic cable, pay cable, pay television, pay-per-view, interactive cable and the like, and new in 2007, broadband) to markets representing at least 51% of U.S. television homes.
  • Foreign television production is ineligible unless it is the result of a co-production (both financially and creatively) between U.S. and foreign partners, which precedes the start of production, and has a commitment to be shown on U.S. television prior to the start of production.

As far as I know, Sundance (unlike HBO) is not available "to markets representing at least 51% of U.S. television homes." Also, Slings and Arrows does not seem to have an American co-production company.
