ithildin: (Grey's - Ruler of All Evil)
I've seen this mentioned on a few blogs dealing with the strike. The idea is to mail envelopes with four pennies to the studio heads. Like the peanut mailing the Jericho fans did.

What do the four pennies mean?

that's the residuals they get from every DVD sale.

Hrm, I'm not sure about that. It tends to REALLLY irritate the production companies. Sure, that'd be fun on a visceral level, but since we're trying to get them back to the bargaining table...last thing we want is them digging in.

Course, if they still refuse, then yay pennies!

The writers or the studios?

I've heard a lot about the strike but I haven't heard what the writers actually want.

The four cent residual that the writers get per DVD sale, but don't get for anything that the network airs on the internet.

Ah! That last comment was from me.

Ahh, ok. Thank you.

I've been hearing about the strike but I hadn't heard the specifics of what the writers were striking over. I've been curious about it.

figured! And yeah, they get 4 cents. Stuff on the internet, as Ith said, is unpaid. They call it 'promotional' and get away with it. Ron Moore's mentioned this. The BSG webisodes everyone was gleeing over last year? The writers got nothing. He protested, the network put it online anyway.

Ok. I feel more for them then I did then. Thank you for the info.

The writers. They get a four cent residual on DVDs that sell for $20 or more.

Hey, are you lurking on [livejournal.com profile] wga_supporters? I think the hardest thing about the fan-effort is going to be co-ordinating fandom, which currently seems to be brainstorming in little everywhere.

The pizza drives are going well though ;-)

Yeah, and a very posty comm it is! I saw the penny thing in the comments of a couple of writer blogs, but I've quickly lost track of where I'm seeing stuff.

They were eating peanuts on the Jericho set throughout the entire filming of the seven Season 2 episodes as well as post production, heh. Supposedly, they will also be seen in some of the new episodes.

Sorry had to pipe in since you mentioned Jericho. Back to lurking!

I think irritating the producers is a good thing. Sounds like a plan. Also here is a link to a writer's blog (http://sex-in-a-sub.blogspot.com/2007/11/wga-strike-stuff-for-writers-trying-to.html) I stole from someone else that really explains the strike from a writers point of view. I saw some of your commenters were asking about what the writers want.

That's the link I was looking for earlier! I'd read it yesterday, but couldn't find it again.

The Office [American version] did the same thing. The 2 writers even won an Emmy for their work. And got paid zero dollars.

Thanks for the links, Ith. I understand this a lot better now.
