ithildin: (Forever Knight - Janette Wine)
We got home about an hour ago, safe and sound. Downloaded my mail and am fairly certain I'll never catch up with all of it. I see tons and tons of Las Vegas/PWFC emails on both lists. Is there anything there I should be aware of, or can I skip it without fear? As for my f'list, goodness only knows how far I'll work back, so if you posted something nifty, or you have news, let me know, okay?

I think that about covers it. Now to unpack and and get stuff ready for work tomorrow.

Welcome back. Just general con squeee. And talk about GOH. And newbies being very nervous. And oldies acting like they aren't *g*.

It's way too early for nerves, IMHO [g] They're going to burn themselves out before we're even six months out! Pacing is everything!

Says the woman who has nothing to plan for the con.....

Nerves? We don't need no stinkin' nerves!

Not you, I'm talking about run of the mill attendees like me. Getting this nervous and stressed nearly a year ahead of the event will have them basket cases by the time they're actually there.

I'm not sure why people get nervous about the guest aspect of a media con. Realistically, an attendee will have little to no interaction with any guest. They might get an autograph, but mostly, you see them on a stage behind a microphone. Peter, for example. I've been to something like six events he's attended over the last eleven odd years, and I think I've spoken to him twice. Once in an autograph line a decade ago, and about the weather in Monterey at the meet and greet in Philadelphia. And that was only becuase the meet and greet was set up for him to talk to attendees. If it hadn't, I wouldn't have had any contact with him over the entire weekend. My media con stress/angst/drama always seem to result from non guest sources. I guess newbies assume they will have more interaction with guests than is actually the reality? So they get more nervous than they need to. [shrug] I dunno, I'm just typing out loud [g] Long LJ vacation withdrawal resulting in long comments!

As this is my first con, I'm a bit nervous, but not about the guest aspect. I really don't know anyone, so I'm nervous about meeting new people and if I'm going to have fun. Though if worst comes to worst, I figured as an adult, I can always just go and hit the strip and make my own fun. I always have to have a escape plan. Experience has taught me that. I flew 3k miles to visit my half-sister and brother and newborn nephew for the first time and it was a horrible, thank god I had a friend there and she took me in for a week. This is different though, and I'm sure I will have a good time, after all it's Vegas baby.

As for the guest part, I only want to see if PW looks as good in person as he does on TV, and hope to get an autograph for myself and for my best mate. I'm not even sure if they will allow autographs.

I'm not sure if other newbies feel the same as I do. All I know about cons is from my friends, so maybe I'm more realistic than someone else.

[nods] I'm extremely shy and I don't do crowds well, so cons are very stressful for me, even after all these years.

He does look as good in person, and there's usually an autograph opportunity.
