I must beg your pardon for showing up so late, and for being off to bed again. The evening sort of got away from me and before I knew it, it was very late. Worknights. *sigh*
It just has this whole... can't think of the word I want, so I'll go with mythos surrounding it. I've actually done a fair bit of research on the subject. For no reason, just because I found it fascinating :)
That's true, it does have some notariety. However that word might be spelled.
But alcohol in general has a big mystique thing going on. Social and antisocial. Writers always drink themselves to death, how much more antisocial can you be than drinking alone? And in tv and movies, everyone is always drinking, very social.
Do you remember the scene in Bram Stoker's Dracula where Dracula and Mina drink some absinthe? It was a very moody, well done scene. Also, very green.
