ithildin: (Methos - Darkness)
...I watch Revelations 6:8, the Slinky Quickening never fails to amuse me. Talk about unintentional humour in what was supposed to be a dramatic moment.

And no matter how many times I watch the two Horsemen eps, I still come away totally ticked off at Duncan.

Some things are eternal [g]

plus 100 :)

Oh, Horsemen eps... They made me watch the show back in 1998, they dragged me into the fandom yaer and a half ago...
Naturally, my first fic was in a way its resolution and my first songvid was based upon them:).

I spend half the series ticked off at Duncan. I'm all for a flawed hero, but ...

Those were the first episodes you saw?

At least the first I remember. Actually, I saw CaH and missed Rev, and I remember very well how one of my friends, very impressed and excited, was retelling it to me :). It was the beginning:). Fornunately, they repeated 5th season soon. But it was a while before I watched the previous ones, and the 1st one was the last I saw.

Methos (as always) put it best; "You are such a pain in the arse ... "

You know, when I finally seduced my best friend to watch HL some months ago, she was so pissed off at MacLeod after Horsemen&FUOT eps, that she called me at midnight to share her anger:).

I can sure imagine that!

The Messenger is another one that gets my anti-Dunky rage happening.

Interesting first perspective on the series.

OK, I'm biased because Culbraith is one of my favourite Immies and played by one of my favourite actors, but -

Duncan gets a mad-on against Culbraith because he doesn't help Duncan's buddy Jeffrey (Culbraith having just found out his wife and kids got burned alive, which does tend to mess a man up).

Duncan backs up his idea of Culbraith being an evil bastard with the fact that Culbraith then went around slaughtering any Union soldier he could get his hands on.

Um, Dunc? Isn't that exactly what you did to the English a while back?

That's aside from the 'hello, Richie could get his head lopped off here and you're nancing about worrying about your integrity' thing.

I hadn't looked at it like that before, the parallel between the aftermath of Culloden and Culbraith's reaction to his family's death.

all these years later and you get to see something new!

I was rather mad at Mac in this ep because he again jumped to conclusions with Methos, and after that he made him open his name to Richie, who maybe loyal but he _is_ young and careless. And of course an idea of 'thanks' and 'sorry' doesn't even cross his mind :).

Yeah, one of the reasons I'm Methos girl through and through:).

Heh. I started with S1 in its original airing, and yet, I'm still a Methos girl now and forever :)

Mac can be amazingly blinkered, especially for a man who's 400 and something years old. He leaps instantly to a conclusion, builds his case for it and ignores anything that might counter his crusade.

Returning to Culbraith again, it doesn't occur to Duncan to wonder why a previously reasonable and humane soldier suddenly became a rat-bastard overnight. Noooo, just stamp and flail and swear revenge!

(Though to be fair, having to snap your buddy's neck so he doesn't suffer a slow painful death can also mess a man up.)

I remember how I was reading 'guest stars' in the beginning of each ep, waiting for Peter's name to appear:). S6 was such a disappointment....

Funny isn't it, I'm sure we're meant to feel horrified at Methos but I think redemption and growth from darkness is such a powerfully positive image... Plus we all already love Methos.

I'm not sure now what my reaction was when I first saw the episode, to many rewatches to contend with. At the last watch a large part of me wanted to whack Duncan on the head (several times until he stopped being an idiot), but the rest of me actually felt a bit sorry for him. Like when you first discover your parents aren't perfect after all (even though they never pretended to be). They both looked so upset after that confrontation in the carpark.

It's not like he lets it go afterwards either, he had less trouble with John Cage's reinvention.

Still not sure what all the fuss was about, in that time period only killing 10 people a year practically made you a humanitarian :-).

I could go on for pages about my Duncan issues, but I'll pick one: Darius. Duncan worshiped him, but Darius only became good via a Light Quickening. Methos changed all on his own, through his own desire. Not to mention Methos saved Duncan from a Dark Quickening, never judging him after he killed Sean.

On the other hand, maybe he wouldn't be the 'Duncan MacLeod of clan Macleod'(TM) otherwise:)

True! Very true!

They can only work with what the character is given ;}

Absolutely and positively agreed.

(The way Mac behaved in the begining of Methuselah Gift, which was their first meeting after Dark Quickening, is also questionable, to say the least.)

[I will share my anger with you again... :)]

How dumb Mac was!
