...I watch Revelations 6:8, the Slinky Quickening never fails to amuse me. Talk about unintentional humour in what was supposed to be a dramatic moment.

And no matter how many times I watch the two Horsemen eps, I still come away totally ticked off at Duncan.

Some things are eternal [g]

Haha, same. But then again, like others, Duncan tick me off a lot. :P

All my Duncan fan friends are going to be very annoyed with me! I didn't expect my random post to generate such passion!

I'm not annoyed with you, just with all the Duncan bashing. Duncan's problem in CaH and R6:8 was that he reacted to shocking news in a poor way. He struggled with that information plus he was being manipulated by three people, all of them telling him three different things, all with their own agendas. One wanted him dead (Kronos), one was flat out using him (Cassandra), and one he wanted to trust but knew was lying to him (Methos).

Really, what did you expect from Duncan in that situation?

You know, when the eps first aired, I ended up so angry at Duncan, it didn't do a lot for my enjoyment of a lot of the episodes that followed. Probably didn't help that there was a lot of high emotion on the Highlander and PWFC list over it all. As the years have passed, my feelings have definitely mellowed, but I still get aggravated when I watch them.

Duncan is the hero (note: the show is named after him. *g*) so he has to be, you know, good. Struggling, but good.

Methos is the sidekick (note: the show is not called "Methos"). He is allowed to have more ethical gray areas. But eventually, also good. More or less.

That's the way Hero/Sidekick stories often play out (note: the people we're talking about are fictional characters *g*) so it's hard for me to bash one or the other. They fit together like a puzzle. And puzzles are more fun to play with than taking "sides," imho.

More's the pity [g]

I don't think I'm bashing him, I just have some issues with his actions. I guess after four seasons, and the lessons he'd learned, I excepted more compassion from the guy that was supposed to be the hero. In a way, it made Duncan seem OOC to me.

I think Duncan is busy having a building moral crisis over this series. He's had to absorb a lot of changes to his own world view over the last few episodes, and then we have the bitch Cassandra opps I mean witch, messing with his head. So as annoying as he occasionally is he's always trying to do what is best.

I think a series called Methos would be an excellent idea though :-).
I'm with [livejournal.com profile] mischief5. Bad, bad Judgmental Duncan. Good ol' Saint Darius, patron saint of Truth, Justice and the Immortal Way. Tiresome. Done to Death. Really Many episodes employ the shorthand of dramatic tropes for efficiency. Duncan, particularly because he's the hero, frequently suffers from personality whiplash -- because he has to haul the load. In the end he always comes right. As a writer I prefer to use those occasions as a story op -- or ignore them completely -- they have nothing to do with the Duncan I'm interested in writing about.

[nods] Agreed.
