Good: They're building a new state liquor store in Hurricane that's due to open by Xmas! No more trekking into St. George! And even better, it's supposed to specialize in wine to cater to the tourists! WOOT!

Bad: Our truck was broken into in the wee hours of yesterday morning. Five years we live in a marginal area in Monterey with nary a problem, but it's here we get hit. Though our nearly 25 YO truck probably wasn't much of a target there amongst the Mercedes and Beemers. And they took the center console! Ripped it right out. Didn't touch the stereo. They must have thought there was something of value in the console. Boy, I bet they were disappointed - it was empty.

Either that, or the center console for that model and year is valuable on the parts market.

Well, they broke it when they tore it out, so it wouldn't be much use.

Bummer. Sorry to hear. I wonder if the console is what they wanted, too. Otherwise seems they'd have taken the stereo. You would think one wouldn't cost too much at a wrecking yard though. People! ((sigh))

It's bolted to the floor, so tearing it out meant they left a good chunk of the bottom of the console behind. So it's useless as a part. It has a big lock on it, which was broken, so maybe they thought we had a CD player or something in it [shrug]

EEK! I'm sorry to hear that. *hugs*

Thanks :)

Oh my gosh! How awful. But yay! on the liquor store.

Damn thieves!

Yep, move to the country and get burgled.

Oh, that stinks. Of all the rotten things to do!

Are you able to drive it?

Yep, it was just the console.

Well, good that it's drivable, but sheesh! People who can't leave other people's things alone should be strung up by their thumbs.

Yikes!! I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm always worried that's going to happen to me (I often work in the not-so-great part of town) but so far I've been lucky.

It's odd that we move to the country and that's when we get broken into.

Eek. Sounds like somebody needed a part! Round here, it's not the Mercedes or BMWs that get broken into -- it's the Hondas and Toyotas. For the parts, sadly.

*snickers* Can't you just see it? Two guys, who've just spent twenty minutes getting into the vehicle and removing the part -- only to get their first good look at it. One of 'em hits the other and hisses about 'stupid idiot, ya broke it'. The other hisses back, 'me? You were the one pulling it.' Then the lookout comes up and sees what happens and hits 'em both, hissing about 'we just spent half an hour out here and we got nuttin' to show for it!'

Serves 'em right.

Aww, that bites! I know how much it sucks to have your car broken into. Sounds like they were just looking for money or other items worth something. Good thing you didn't have anything in there! I think that's one of the bad things about having an old car, is that they are so much easier to break into.

I think I may have bumped up against the whole boot versus trunk thing again - is a console a glove compartment?

Oh, I looked up on wikipedia, and I think it's the part I'd call the gearbox...you'd know I'm a pedestrian, wouldn't you:-P

It may not actually be called that, but it's the thing between the front seats that opens (in some cases) and you can put stuff in it. Or use it as an arm rest.

Aaaaah! A glove compartment is usually on the passenger side, just under the dashboard - it is, funnily enough, a thing that opens and you can put stuff in it (i.e. gloves!) but I wouldn't recomment resting your arms on it!

Nope, we have a glove compartment. This is something else. In new cars, they usually have a charger inside for your cell phone, cup holders that pop out. Our was just a box with a lid. Some cars don't have them at all, especially smaller ones. Trucks usually do, as do minivans.

Yeah, I'm sure they're enjoying their ace bandage and old auto insurance cards... [/snark mode]

Damn, that sucks! I hope they get cut on the jagged edge. >:( I'd send the cops guarding my dad's street if they weren't so busy!

I'm sorry! That just seems odd, unless it was locked why not just grab what is in there, I would think it would be quicker and easier...maybe there is a center console ring going on around there
