That's sort of a two part thing. I had been watching PotC and then listening to the soundtrack, and just had this vision of Methos comforting a young immortal at the death of her husband. Five minutes later, I was writing it. That became 'One Day'. Even her name, I didn't really think about, it was just Charlotte. If I'd realized there'd be more stories, I would have probably chosen a different name due to the slave Methos has sex with in 'Indiscretions' was named Charlotte, and I usually try not to reuse names. But I thought it was a one off story. Famous last words.

Part two: post story, when it looked like I'd be wrting more Charlotte, I recalled a mind fic I used to write to entertain myself that was PotC, Highlander, and Stargate. Thinking on it, I realized a lot of who the OC was in that fic would work for Charlotte, with the one difference that she wasn't from our time, thrown back into the past. So Charlotte got a new background, but quite a few of her experiences in the 18th century are those I'd conceived of in my mind fic way back when. Like how she met Jack, her first death, and a few adventures.
