The original four parts have been somewhat rewritten, and I posted a new chapter last night. It's not finished, but I do have four more chapters written. It's progress!

Dark World
Feb. 26th, 2014 08:54 pmGot the Loki II DVD yesterday and we watched the One Shot and the deleted scenes. The One Shot - - oh, the possibilities! Loved it, and the during and after the credits scenes! Felt cheated by the deleted stuff, knowing that nearly an hour was cut from the final version by Disney /Marvel.
Our Big SLC Weekend - now for T Hiddy
Feb. 24th, 2014 02:00 pmSo the main reason for our trip was to see T Hiddy, errr.. Tom Hiddleston, in Coriolanus. Which did happen, between all the eating and stuff :D
Friday night, we went to the Utah Symphony to see Natalie MacMaster perform. She was wonderful! And seven months pregnant, but she still danced around with her fiddle! It was a terrific performance. Saturday, the screening for Coriolanus started at 12:15, and Nin had out the walking direction via Google into her phone, and we couldn't find the theater!! I knew it was sold out, and really didn't want to be stuck in the front row because we were late. I brought up my ticket confirmation on my phone, and read the address, and turned out she'd entered 11 Broadway, not 111 [whew] So we arrive with plenty of time, get seats, and of course, tweeted. I'm pretty sure the majority of the audience were there to see Tom. The play started, and you could tell from the quiet that the audience was drawn in. The interval interview with the director had some amusing moments, where she admitted that Tom 'was passing sexy' Our audience busted up laughing at that. We really enjoyed the play. Great cast all around, and I loved the staging, and how they used lighting. It's amazing that we're able to see live theatre all the way from London in our own backyard. So glad we decided to make the trip! And thanks to the University of Utah, Tanner Humanities Centre, for making it possible.

We had a great time! We'd booked a really good package at the Hotel Monaco, which was right downtown, and we walked everywhere. The hotel was lovely, and other than an issue I had at check in (I'm not sure if it was a lack of training or truly hotel policy)(And yes, I'm fussy, I admit it. I grew up in a hotel, worked in them for years.) everything from there on out was terrific, even the creepy love LOL Here's the thing, I'd tweeted on our way about our first stay at that chain, and after we checked in, a room service waiter brought us a bowl of strawberries with a hand written card, welcoming us and thanking me for tweeting about them. Now, since I tweet under Ithildyn, I was rather impressed with their detective skills. In a follow up twitter convo, they said they were glad they'd guessed the right guest. Their motto's something like 'love at first stay', so I said it was kind of creepy love, but I truly did appreciate it the lovely surprise - and I love strawberries!
The hotel itself is a renovated old building, and they've done a great job. The room has a funky traditional vibe, and they make the most of the space. My only wish was that the rooms have real shower heads. I can only assume that due to the age of the building, they can't, so instead they have these handheld wands bolted to the wall. Made for a very awkward shower. The bathroom itself however, was huge! And the zebra print robe gave me a giggle.
There's a wine social in the lobby at 5 every evening, which was a lot of fun. On Saturday, the host had SLC Comic Con on his name plate, and since those are usually where they're from, I had to ask. He explained that their staff tags had their guilty pleasure under their name. And he apparently was one of the organizers of the Salt Lake City Comic con. He said Stan Lee was their guest last year. They also have their staff massage therapist available to do a five minute complimentary neck/shoulder massage. I took advantage on Saturday, and she did an amazing job, knowing without me saying a word how messed up my neck is. Oh, and Friday, the host had her dog, Jazzie with her, and I made several trips back to pet the pup. Such a nice change from where I work which bans all pets from property. (We used to be able to bring dogs for a visit, but we had an animal hater employee complain, and so it was ruined for everyone.)
The package came with a dining credit in their lounge, and since their whole restaurant menu is available there, we didn't feel like we missed trying out the restaurant itself. We had some amazing food! I think the highlights were the duck toast, the cheese plate (had that twice!), and the mussels. Amazed at the mussels - tried them even though I don't like fish or clams etc..., but the preparation sounded so good. Yum!! The service was spot on. Even though it was jammed on a Fri/Sat night, the servers instantly noticed when my drink was empty and came to see if I wanted another. We did eat in the restaurant for Sat. morning breakfast, and I had biscuits with spicyelf elk sausage gravy. OMG! So good!
So a great stay was had! I can definitely recommend staying at their property in SLC, and I can only assume that the other Kimpton properties are just as great.
We did a teensy bit of shopping at City Creek: Sephora! And we had dinner one night at an Asian place called The Naked Fish. Before we headed home yesterday, we had our obligatory farewell SLC lunch as Squatters Brewery, which was delicious as always.
All in all, a much more relaxing weekend than going to Vegas. I think it was worth the extra two hour's drive to go to SLC instead.

Feb. 21st, 2014 05:09 pmWent to work for a few hours this morning and then Nin picked me up and we headed to Salt Lake City. Made good time, got checked in, and will be joining the wine social here in a bit. The hotel is right downtown, and within walking distance of everything we are doing this weekend. Tonight, we're going to see Natalie McMaster and the Utah symphony, and tomorrow is the long awaited viewing of Coriolanus! Squee!

That Guardians of the Galaxy trailer
Feb. 19th, 2014 06:46 pmMy feelings can be summed up as 'meh'. I was hoping seeing the trailer might inspire me to be somewhat more enthusiastic, but it had the opposite effect. It's gone from 'I'll see it at some point', to 'Probably a rental.' Too bad, because up till now, **every Marvel movie has been an event, with midnight viewings and trips to meet friends for opening day (We're meeting in Disneyland for Captain America II) and I'm going to miss that. But it'll still make pots of money without me, so I'm sure Marvel isn't too worried :D On the bright side, next year is Avengers II, so there is still squee to be had. Unless there's the addition of racoons or marmots, then we'll see.
** Except for Iron Man, but that was because I didn't know it was going to love at first sight for me and Tony. But I've been ever faithful since that fateful viewing.

Feb. 4th, 2014 06:03 pmSo how did I end up discovering the hysterical delights of Mythical Detective Loki? Here's how it went: I got an email form VUDU, which is an online movie rental place, sort of like Netflix, where Nin and I rent a lot of our movies. You can buy Thor: The Dark World from them TODAY!!!!! So, I'm tempted. It's not a hard copy, but TODAY!!!! And the tempting bit? Loki: The God of Mischief (VUDU exclusive) How can one resist? So I decide to do a websearch to see if it really is so exclusive, and one of the results I get back is, you guessed it, Mythical Detective Loki.
So, now the question: do I buy Thor TDW from VUDU all for Loki: The God of Mischief (VUDU exclusive) Stupid question, right? And I can watch now, I don't have to wait till the end of the month for the DVD to be released.
