A More Permanent Hell

I actually managed to write a Christmas fic this year -- even if it is a few days late. This takes place right after 'What's Rule Number One?', set just after the end of Iron Man III.

Now that we're to the end of Iron Man II, we're in Tony/Pepper territory, if you recall the scene with them on the rooftop at the end of the movie. I'm not much of a shippy writer, so I hope I do the pairing justice in this part. I'm also happy you introduce you to Agents Yang and Bandopadhyay in this final part. Hey, what's a few more OCs?

They were in the VIP lounge of the main auditorium, watching the crowd file in for the presentation Justin Hammer was scheduled to make. Charlotte's presentation, which had been set for the beginning of the evening, was now to be after Hammer's.

( Pepper squeezed her shoulder sympathetically. )

As they neared the end of the long winding driveway, Charlotte checked her 'Jarvis-phone' one last time for messages. As she started to put it in her evening bag, the AI's voice issued from the car's stereo speakers. "Madam, Mr. Stark requests your presence in his suite."

"You've got to be kidding me!"

"Indeed not, madam," Jarvis replied. "He was quite insistent."

( She shook her head at the facetious note in Jarvis' response—he seemed more real to her some days than actual flesh and blood people she knew. )

"What about Monaco this year?" Tony asked, fingering the wine glass in front of him.

"I don't know, Tony…." Pepper shook her head slightly, looking at Charlotte.

"You'd be mobbed," Charlotte said. "After everything that's happened the last week, I think we should skip it this year."

"But that's our place. We go every year." He didn't sound happy. Tony and Charlotte had met there eleven years ago at a party, and the two of them had gone every year since, along with Charlotte's cousin and Tony's best friend, Ezra.

( Pepper poured more wine into her glass. )

It's finally finished! Thanks to everyone who has stuck with me till the end, and special thanks to those that have taken the time to comment. It's my cheese! I started this before IM II had even come out, and that, along with the subsequent movies, Thor, and Captain America, have shaped the story. This story is set between the two Iron Man movies, and the sequel will take place during IM II. Maybe I'll get it written before The Avengers comes out - or not. Charlotte grasped Ezra's arm as they walked down the causeway towards Tony's yacht, burying her face into his shoulder. He heard a muffled, "Just shoot me now," mixed with a groan. ( Behind them, Amanda's animated chatter floated on the ocean breeze, interspersed with occasional comments from Methos and Jacob Tanimura, who walked with her. Charlotte had leapt at Amanda joining them; his cousin seeming to think there would be safety in numbers. )
