ithildin: (Methos - Jane)
I've always joked that my personality in part is due to reading Jane Eyre for the first time when I was seven. Just finished watching the newest rendition on Masterpiece Theater, and am thinking maybe that's not quite as much a joke as I thought it was :)

Maybe if I'd read Austen instead of Bronte, I'd have a cheerier outlook on life!

Definitely recommend the new miniseries. Very good, though stuffed into four hours, it's a little sparse in some parts.

Oh gosh, I adore Jane Eyre. I just love the fact that we are presented with a plain, witty heroine who doesn't crumble under pressure and sticks to her metaphorical guns. That's my kinda girl. : )
However, the first Austen I ever read was Mansfield Park with the most insipid heroine ever, and after that I developed an unfair dislike for Austen. I really ought to give her another shot and re-read Pride and Prejudice.

I haven't read MP, only P&P and S&S as an adult, and I liked both of them quite well. However, as a youngster, I also read Wuthering Heights! Me and Bronte :)

The other books I read as a youngster were Daphne DuMaurier's -- Rebecca, Jamaica Inn, etc.
