ithildin: (Methos - Jane)
I've always joked that my personality in part is due to reading Jane Eyre for the first time when I was seven. Just finished watching the newest rendition on Masterpiece Theater, and am thinking maybe that's not quite as much a joke as I thought it was :)

Maybe if I'd read Austen instead of Bronte, I'd have a cheerier outlook on life!

Definitely recommend the new miniseries. Very good, though stuffed into four hours, it's a little sparse in some parts.

Good golly, and I thought I was precocious reading Gone With The Wind at eleven.

I remember not being so into the book once the romance stuff started [g] But the beginning of the novel, when Jane's a little girl, really made a lasting impression on me. I then read it ever few years, and as I got older, came to appreciate adult Jane :) I haven't read it in something like ten years. Should rectify that! See how I feel about it now after having my own broken heart and lost love.

Oh gosh, I adore Jane Eyre. I just love the fact that we are presented with a plain, witty heroine who doesn't crumble under pressure and sticks to her metaphorical guns. That's my kinda girl. : )
However, the first Austen I ever read was Mansfield Park with the most insipid heroine ever, and after that I developed an unfair dislike for Austen. I really ought to give her another shot and re-read Pride and Prejudice.

I haven't read MP, only P&P and S&S as an adult, and I liked both of them quite well. However, as a youngster, I also read Wuthering Heights! Me and Bronte :)

The other books I read as a youngster were Daphne DuMaurier's -- Rebecca, Jamaica Inn, etc.

Oddly enough, I loved Mansfield Park when I first read it. I have no idea what I was reading at 7 -- I think I was making my way through Dickens or something, and god knows that will warp you.

But I wanted to kill Jane's awful cousins and aunt more times than I can count. You know, where you lay awake at night and think up different ways for them to die? Preferably messy, unpleasant, and long.

And I'd like to see Peter do both Mr. Rochester AND Sherlock Holmes.

Yeah, I wanted awful things to happen to them too [g]

Yes! Months ago, I was on this whole Methos as Mr. Rochester kick. (hence the icon) I won't rehash the whole thing here, but I was this close to writing fic [g]

Well, I wouldn't stop you. Yes, he'd make a great Mr. Rochester, wouldn't he? (oh, god, and now I see Tracy Scoggins as the insane wife...)

And who would you pick for Jane?

Well, my idea was something vague, but it revolved around Methos, in one of his personas, being the inspiration for Bronte for the character of Mr. Rochester. That make sense? Well, it kinda made sense at the time [g]
