Just got an email from DishNetwork and they're shipping my new DVR second day air, so it'll be here Monday! I was really worried they'd ship it ground and I'd be dead in the water all of next week.

I've noticed folks are also creating backup comms on IJ. Wondering if I should do the same for [livejournal.com profile] holbycitylounge and [livejournal.com profile] highland_cross?

Oh, and since it's one of those days, if you have fic or something else you think might interest me, please feel free to rec it in the comments. Can be yours, somebody else's -- I'm easy (but never cheap). As far as fic goes, gen, het, or f/f would be cool. It doesn't even have to be one of my fandoms, but something I'm at least vaguely familiar with would probably help [g]

Ugh, I feel like nails are being driven into the back of my head. Took something, hope it works soonish. Now I'm glad I overzealous yesterday and got everything I'd planned to do today done.

6 1/2 hours till going home time.

I created an annex to [livejournal.com profile] highland_cross over on Insane Journal. You can find it here.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to have a backup!

Good news! A Bit of Fry & Laurie is now out on DVD!

A Bit of Fry & Laurie: The Complete Collection ... Every Bit, a four-disc set with all four seasons of the dry British comedy-sketch show with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, tacks on a welcome bonus: The Cambridge University Footlights Revue. This is the hour-long 1982 BBC film of The Cellar Tapes, the 1980-81 show created when Laurie was president and Emma Thompson vice-president of the university's Footlights troupe. (Other alumni: John Cleese, Eric Idle.) The show was the hit of the 1981 Edinburgh Festival and launched the careers of Laurie, Fry and Thompson, who in one skit sends up the period dramas for which she would later win acclaim.

Oh yes, this is so going on my Wish List! I've never seen all of the episodes, just scattered smatterings that I've caught on PBS. But what I have seen, I've loved. Hey, it's Hugh and Stephen -- what's not to love? [g]

It occurred to me that I have no involvement in Tolkien fandom, and yet, it's my one true love. Is that odd? (Yes, probably.) When I was a teenager, I ate, drank and breathed Tolkien. Totally and utterly obsessed. I bought every related book I could find, and I even have an LP of Songs From Middle Earth. I even tried to join the The Mythopoeic Society. I say tried, because I joined at a con, paid my membership in cash, and they promptly lost all record of the transaction. After writing to them for nearly a year, with no luck, I gave up [g] But here I am, all these years later, still in love, but not involved in any sort of online fandom. Not in email, or LJ (other than scanning Middle Earth News), or anything in between. It just seems that most of what's online is fanfic related, and I've never had any interest in fic when it comes to Middle Earth. For the most part, it's become an almost entirely internalized fandom for me. Which is fine, but I kind of miss the personal interaction from the 'old days' :)

If you could only watch 10 currently in production TV shows, which would they be?

In no real order:

01: House M.D.
02: Grey's Anatomy
03: Holby City
04: Atlantis
05: Ugly Betty
06: Friday Night Lights
07: Supernatural
08: Doctor Who
09: How I Met You Mother
10: It's a battle between Battlestar Galactica and Torchwood. Haven't decided which one wins yet [g]

That was hard! But a little easier since several that would have had to have been on the list, like Stargate and Gilmore Girls, ended last season.

Company

Jen's husband is in India, so she's coming down tomorrow for the weekend. Since I rarely have company, I've got all sorts of food planned. Dinner tomorrow night is going to be Nin's favourite Chipotle Ranch Tacos, with my usual guacamole, and I'm going to try a new salsa recipe, which has roasted tomatillos, onions, serronos, and garlic. Then a strawberry shortcake for dessert. Trying to decide if I want to make biscuits or sponge for that.

Brunch on Sunday is going to be a gruyere and prosciutto oven omelette with fruit and bacon and mimosas, and then I'm going to be lazy and go out for dinner!

I also just found this recipe for mini shortbread that I think I'd like to try, and we have some overripe bananas, so a chocolate banana loaf would be nice too!

We haven't decided on entertainment yet. Pondering doing a Johnny Depp-athon, since it's been a while since I've watched Chocolat, The Man Who Cried, and Don Juan DeMarco. Or maybe we'll do Firefly!

So I probably won't be around much over the weekend -- I'll be in the kitchen!

I've shucked the tomatillios, am roasting garlic, cleaned the kitchen, talked to my mum, talked to Nin. Now what? Maybe I'll try to at least make an attempt at finishing 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes' -- it's taking me forever to finish!
