Things Not Written
Aug. 31st, 2013 01:20 pmI had some mental fic writing going on when I was on vacation, and a few more such efforts over the last week. Not sure if they'll ever turn into 'real' stories, or just inhabit my subconscious and pop up in bits and pieces in dreams.
( Jotting down the ideas.... )
( Jotting down the ideas.... )
I'm not sure anyone cares one way or the other, but I seek your opinion. If you read my fic, would you have any objection to me not posting the actual story here, but a link to the chapter on AO3 instead? Back in the day, having it on LJ made sense for the conversations in the comments, but since those days are long gone, I was thinking it would be simpler to not have to post links to chapters and the story, and the parts, and update them both on LJ and DW. I would probably continue to post short things here, but the multi-chapter stories, just on AO3.
ETA: Since I apparently wasn't clear, just clarifying that I'm referring to my own DW/LJ/AO3 - places where I post. It's my own journals that interaction has faded on. I wasn't commenting on anyone else's experience. I accept total responsibility that I'm old and boring and haven't kept up with the times to sustain my readers' interests :)

Where I've Been
Aug. 25th, 2013 08:19 pmHave been vacationing in the four corners region with Nin and Roberta since Saturday. Yesterday and Monday, we were at Mesa Verde National Park, the photo below is at Spruce House, after climbing down a ladder into a kiva. The first day, we got caught out in a lightening storm on top of the mesa, and lightening hit the ground a few hundred feet in front of me. It was very scary. The next day we did Spruce House, Cliff Castle, and Balcony House. Balcony House included a 32 ' ladder and a climb out along the cliff face with just a chain fence between me and the cliff edge. I was shaking like a leaf, but am proud of myself for doing it!

Best Laid Plans
Aug. 3rd, 2013 02:08 pmThe Magnificent Seven con is going on as I type. For once, I planned in advance, bought early bird memberships before there were even any guests, blocked the time off, made hotel ressies. Yeah, that didn't work out. Vet bills, our car acting up again, and the current situation at work=I couldn't go. Am a wee bit bummed.
Have just slathered myself with sunscreen, going to take mum to work and while we're there, Nin and I may use the Natl Park pass to go take a walk in Zion NP. Depends on how hot it is up there. It's 96 down here, so we'll see. When I get back, need to make green chile relish for dinner and remember to cross post my 'Agents of SHIELD' ficlet from earlier in the week.

I've had better weeks
Aug. 2nd, 2013 09:32 pmAnd months.
Ember died yesterday, of old age, but unexpectedly nonetheless. She'd been slowing down, having more breathing issues, and in the end, she climbed into mum's lap and died.
Ember was one of my first rescues, 15 odd years ago. It took nearly three weeks of patience before I could even touch her. Finally, I was able to grab her and bring her home. I'm going to miss her.
We lost Iona at the beginning of the month and now Ember at the end of it.

'Fair Winds and Following Seas'
Aug. 1st, 2013 06:52 pmAs soon as I saw the character bio clip for Melinda May, I had to write this. I don't think I've written fic for something I've never seen before, but I took an instant liking to Agent May, and wanted to write something with her in it.
Fandom: Agents of SHIELD//Marvel Movieverse
Rating: PG
Warnings/Notes: Complete, gen friendship. Takes place between the end of Iron Man III and the beginning of Agents of SHIELD.
Character(s): Agent Melinda May, Original Character.
Summary: Two very different women find they have more in common than they might have thought.
===============================
Fair Winds and Following Seas
"I knew I should have gotten the collision insurance when I picked up the rental." Charlotte grinned at her own joke. However, the woman across the desk from her didn't seem to appreciate the humour.
"That chopper is an expensive piece of equipment, ma'am," ( Agent Melinda May replied almost accusingly, stamping one corner of the requisition sheet in front of her with an authoritative zeal. )

Good news, bad news
Jul. 27th, 2013 06:48 pmGood first: I got a mystery gift off my Amazon Wish List. There was no packing list inside, just the book, Salt, Sugar, Smoke - which is awesome!! I've already found several preserves recipes I want to try once the fruit that isn't apricots ripens!
We got rain yesterday!! And the temperature today didn't break 90! Yay! We've had a very active monsoon season this year.
Not so good: our car won't start again. Remember it had a mystery ailment in the spring, and we thought it was fixed, even though the mechanic wasn't certain it really wasn't the starter? Well, I did research on the early 2000s Impalas, and apparently, when it comes to the passlock system, they're lemons. Hundreds of complaints identical to ours. And no easy fix. I'm to the point that I'm afraid to use it on anything other than very local trips. For God's sake, we live in the desert, I have to be able to rely on the damn car! We're supposed to go to Colorado at the end of the month, only a 6 odd hour drive, but most of it is through the Navajo reservation, which is long long stretches of nothing but dust devils and the occasional wild mustang.
Loki -- the kitten -- has a hurt paw. The kittens like to stick their feet under the door, and one of the Bengals, Caffrey, not having a real idea that the little foot is attached to a live kitten, thought it was a toy and pierced Loki's foot with his massive foot and claw. Poor little mite :(
Then there's me -- some sort of multi-cat incident this morning had one run over my face, and now I have a gash from the corner of my eye to my cheekbone. Talk about panic/pain/lots of blood. Now, the area's swollen, and god only knows what colour it will be tomorrow. I'm very thankful it isn't my eyeball though :(

'Rainbow Connection' (01/01)
Jul. 22nd, 2013 06:19 pmNotes: I've written the Hulk. Understand, my only exposure to him is really the Avengers movie, and yet.... When the Hulk starts chattering at you, you pay attention.
Something of a companion piece to Green Tea, though not a sequel. Hulk's thoughts on 'the Puny God' derive from my story White As Snow, Red As Blood, both on AO3, along with this story.
Title from the song, 'Rainbow Connection' -- if you aren't familiar, look it up on YouTube. Really, you have to :D
========================
Fandoms: Highlander/Avengers/Marvel Movieverse
Rating: PG
Warnings/Notes: Complete, gen friendship, humour, Hulk POV. Also on AO3.
Character(s): Hulk, Bruce Banner, Methos, Original Character.
Summary: Hulk likes tickles, and rain in the sunshine. Lightening is good too.
~Hulk likes tickles, and rain in the sunshine. Lightening is good too.
Rainbow Connection
"I can never adequately repay you for all you've done," the tiny old one said to Bruce. She squeezed his arm, and Hulk shivered. It tickled when the tiny old one touched Bruce. Hulk wished she could touch him, wondering what the tickle would feel like then. But that would make Bruce unhappy, so Hulk was content with just the little tickles. But maybe one day, Hulk would get to touch the tiny one, and he would know.
( Bruce smiled at her—Bruce liked the tiny old one. )

Now I haven't posted in a while, I guess I'm going to spam you all. I need to post some updated kitten pics -- they're five weeks old right now, and so freakishly adorable! And they have names: Loki, Thora, Darcy, Heimdall, and Sif. Well, hey, their mom is Freya! We're in monsoon season, so the afternoon overcast has been so nice. Nin and I got stuck in WalMart when a cell passed over. OMG! It was so loud, between the rain and the thunder. And a few miles away, not a drop of rain. Oh, and I wrote a Hulk fic! Really. No, I don't believe it either. I'll post it here in a bit. The scene in my head made me laugh, and I had to write it. Especially as not a lot has made me laugh lately. I got a tablet for my birthday, and it's quite nifty! Especially as my netbook has been limping along, on its last legs. So that's the condensed recap!
Best Thing This Weekend
Jul. 21st, 2013 05:41 pmSo, last night, the fandom internetz exploded with the news that Tom Hiddleston appeared at the beginning of the Thor II panel at Comic Con as Loki. Lots of pics of it on Tumblr, and I was insanely jealous :D Today, I saw it on YouTube!! I'll admit, I squeeed like my junior high friends used to squee over Leif Garrett -- yes, I'm old, look him up -- and I still have a silly grin on my face. Tom said, apparently, that he's just Loki's vessel, and I was thinking, after watching this, that if the book American Gods wasn't fiction, we'd be in trouble! Anyway, I'm smitten all over again, even if I am too old for it.
Relevant To Our Interests
Jul. 21st, 2013 05:21 pmZachary Levi has a charity, and one of the ways he raises money for it is in depth conversations with guests at Comic Con -- the one with Tom Hiddleston just ended -- and they air live on YouTube, plus they're archived there afterwards. I saw conversations listed on the page with everyone from Joss, to Sherlock, to Supernatural. So you may want to check it out and see if your favourites are there.
